I watched Star Wars for the first time when I was in college. I had seen bits and pieces before, but college was the first time I got to watch all 3 movies, together, in all their gloriousness. My biggest take-away at the time was…. the biggest crush ever on Han Solo. sigh. (a moment while I sit here and reminisce)

Millennium Falcon Perler Bead Coaster
Blogging is hard work. No, I take that back. Blogging is something I do for fun, but that does not always make it easy. And today I am stuck. My mind is totally blank. I can’t come up with anything interesting to say about the Millennium Falcon. (It’s terrible!) So here is what I will do: I am going to give you a link to someone who always has something interesting to say about the iconic ship…

Ahsoka Perler Bead Coaster
Ahsoka has been in the news a lot lately. Being the fan-mom of a fan-girl, I am just thrilled! There has also bee a bit of an uproar about the lack of female Rebels toys and the omission of Leia in the new Star Wars figure set. This not only sad for ALL the fans, but a incredibly puzzling marketing decision on the part of the toy manufacturers. It’s like they don’t want to make money!
Death Star Perler Bead Coaster
Obi-Wan: That’s no moon… It’s a space station!
Han: It’s too big to be a space station!
Star Wars was huge, it was revolutionary! It was a social event! These days we all get our news and entertainment fixes from such varied sources, that it is hard to imagine that we will ever have such a common entertainment experience again. That blue black/gold white dress had everyone talking… But it will be forgotten in a few weeks. The last season of Breaking Bad was big, but still nowhere near the “Who shot JR” experience. So the Death Star, was, huge! Not just in size on screen, but also in impact. There are other newer sci-fi movies that might rival Star Wars in quality, fun and even entertainment value. However the Star Wars trilogy, is common experience that will be remembered, long after those other sci-fi movies have been forgotten.
Luke Skywalker Perler Bead Coaster
So young. So innocent. That’s what I thought anyway until I watched Robot Chicken. There are a handful of scenes in the Star Wars movies that will just never be the same again. Luke at Uncle Owen’s breakfast table is one of them. Who would have thunk that the Tosche station was not, erhm, really a store?
Show your True Colors! (DIY Banners)
Are you a Rebel or a Buckethead? Jedi or a Sith? Do you want to show your true colors, or hedge your bets and show all? Jedi Master Heidi made these 7 fantastic banners few of years back, and they are incredibly simple and cheap to make. Our display might not quite rival Napoleon’s flag display at Les Invalides, but I promise it still looked very impressive!
The first year we used them we had a contest: the person who identified the most insignias correctly won a prize (vintage Star Wars books). It was surprising how hard it was for even the most ardent fans to get more than half correct.
