When our son was about 2.5 he asked me “What does Star Wars smell like?” Now, it happens that I actually do not have a sense of smell, so I would not be able to answer a questions about what ANYTHING smells like. But since I cry when I chop onions, I sneeze when someone wears too much perfume, and cough when I burn the chicken, I at least have some vague concept that different things smell differently. Still, I was WAY out of my depth on the smell of Star Wars (though we have all heard about the Tauntauns stinking). So, we asked dad (who is THE Star Wars expert in our family, and has an exceptional olfactory system to boot), but he had no idea either.

Oh Christmas Tree!
Marriage is full of compromises. Whose family do you spend Christmas with? Who takes the trash out? PCs or Macs?
Before I got married, my Christmas tree was one of my favorite things. Not that it was fancy or anything. it was that it had to be “just so.” It had to look like I remembered my family’s tree from my childhood. Then I get engaged, and my fiancée tells me he collects Hallmark Star Wars ornaments, and wants to put them up in the tree!!!
In MY tree!? No way! There was no compromising with “my” tree!

Some of my Favorite Things (DIY Star Wars Chocolates)
My favorite things (not in any particular order): family, friends, God, Puccini, cheese, Christmas trees, Star Wars, and chocolate. They are even better when combined: a cheese party with friends, seeing Tosca with the hubby, the Christmas display at Church…. and now, eating Star Wars chocolates!!!

It really is like a whole new universe opens up when you have a child. As a first time parent you understand that thing called unconditional love, you learn that someone puking on you can actually be kinda’ cute, and in happy disbelief you find out that there is such a thing as Yoda costumes for infants!

Tosche-ese Station
Cheese is a marvelous thing. I do like a great Gouda with grapes, or a beautiful Basque with black olives (green olives are actually better, but doesn’t sound as poetic). Many of our friends roll their eyes when I tell them they can’t start eating yet because the cheese has to “breathe” first (Thank you Jason for teaching me that trick!!! Amy, thank you for encouraging my “habit”!). I have been accused of being a cheese snob more than once, but I prefer the work “enthusiast”. So when we came up with the idea of a Tosche-ese Station last year, I was almost overwhelmed by the possibilities. After several trips to the cheese counter at Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and Meijer, and confusing the heck out of the friendly staff with questions such as “which cheese will separate less when molding”, we finally settled on this spread.
