As you know, we are all HUGE fans of DIY Star Wars costumes here at M4P. Give us some fleece, duct tape, glue gun and an X-acto knife and we are ready to try just about anything! So when I look for costume ideas and inspiration for us, it really makes me smile when I run across others making their own too.
Characters
Yoda’s Rootleaf Stew
Eat, eat. Hot. Good food, hm? Good, hmm? Turns out, despite all his fancy Jedi abilities, Yoda needs some lovin’ and kind words, just like the rest of us. Make the M4P version of his stew and you’ll gets lots of both!
Now, there is an officially sanctioned Star Wars version of Rootleaf Stew. Do you remember the radio dramatization of the trilogy? NPR actually hired a famous chef to create a recipe as part of the promotion for the Empire Strikes Back. We haven’t tried that recipe yet, but once we do, I will take pictures and post them.
Asajj Ventress Perler Bead Coaster
I have admit I have not read any of the Star Wars books, so I am not very familiar with the Canon parts of Star Wars. So when the Cartoon Network’s Clone Wars shorts came out, I was thrilled by a (to me) totally new character! Sure, she was kinda evil, but she had style, panache and she kicked butt!
Yoda Napkins
“Hmmm. The dark side clouds everything. Impossible to see, the future is.“ (Yoda to Palpatine in Episode II)

Pink Vader (DIY Girl Vader Costume)
Star Wars fandom proposes some problems for girls. The majority of characters are male of course, but more importantly just about all official licensed merchandising is geared towards boys. (Marketing people at Disney, take note, there is a vast untapped market here!) Having a daughter who likes Star Wars, AND pink girly things, can create a bit of a challenge when it comes to Star Wars costumes. But being a firm believer in creative liberties, and personal expressions – as well as being the owner of a several cans of pink spray paint, we went to work. 10 minutes of work, and wait time about the time it took to watch 3 Clone Wars episodes, we had the perfect Pink Vader costume.

Anakin at the Podrace Perler Bead Coaster
Anakin was only 9 when he won the Boonta Eve Classic. Plucky, smart, precocious, and already VERY confident. He is the only character we get to watch grow up on screen in the series, and doing so (knowing how his fate), is the single best part of the Prequel trilogy. Especially watching the movies again, while seeing my own kids growing up, Anakin’s arc takes on a very different emotion – bitter-sweet and terrifying all at once.
